Diwali falls on 8 November this year, which gives Hyderabad businesses roughly three weeks to turn their Diwali marketing ideas into real enquiries and sales. That is enough time to do it properly, but only if you start now and not the weekend before.
We work with shops, restaurants, clinics and real estate teams across Hyderabad, and every festive season we notice the same thing. The businesses that do well are rarely the ones that spend the most. They pick one clear offer, make it easy to find on Google and Instagram, and follow up with the people who showed interest. Below are the Diwali marketing ideas we would actually recommend to a small or mid-sized Hyderabad business this year, arranged as a simple week-by-week plan.
Table of Contents
Start with one offer people can repeat in a sentence
Before you post anything, decide what you are really offering. “Diwali dhamaka sale” tells a customer nothing. “Flat ₹2,000 off any sofa set till 8 November” does. A good test: could a customer explain your offer to a friend in one line?
A few formats that suit local businesses:
- Gift bundles. Sweets with dry fruits, a skincare kit, a pooja set. Bundles feel like ready-made gifts and usually raise the order value.
- Corporate gifting. Offices in HITEC City, Gachibowli and Madhapur order in bulk every year, often in the last two weeks. A simple bulk-order page with minimum quantities and delivery dates can bring in a handful of large orders.
- Book now, pay later. For services like home cleaning, painting or car detailing, let people lock a pre-Diwali slot with a small advance.
- Exchange offers. Furniture, electronics and appliance stores can promote old-for-new exchanges, which give people a reason to decide now rather than “after the festival”.
Keep the end date honest. If you say the offer ends on Diwali, end it on Diwali. Customers in this city talk, and stretched deadlines get noticed.
Week 1 (20 to 26 October): get found before you advertise
Most people search before they buy. Someone looking for a sweet shop in Dilsukhnagar or a furniture showroom in Kukatpally will usually see the Google map results first, so sort those out before you spend on ads.
Update your Google Business Profile
- Add your Diwali hours, especially if you are opening late or on Sunday.
- Post the offer as a Google update with a clear photo and a Call or Order button.
- Upload fresh photos of your festive display, packaging or menu.
- Reply to recent reviews. It takes ten minutes and shows people the business is active.
If your profile needs more work than that, our Google Maps checklist for Hyderabad businesses walks through the full setup.
Check that your website can handle the visitors
If your ads send people to a slow page or a WhatsApp button that opens the wrong number, you are paying for clicks that go nowhere. Our sister company, Cedar Global Technologies, has put together a practical festive season website checklist that covers speed, forms, payments and tracking. Run through it this week, not on the 7th.
Week 2 (27 October to 2 November): Reels, ads and WhatsApp
Make short videos that show the real thing
During Diwali, people want to see the actual product, the packaging and the shop itself. A 15-second Reel of your counter being set up, sweets coming off the tray or a customer opening a gift hamper usually does better than a polished graphic that just says “Happy Diwali”.
Three Reel ideas that are easy to shoot on a phone:
- “Three gifts under ₹1,000”, picked from your own shelves.
- Behind the scenes: preparing the festive collection or the special menu.
- A quick walk from the entrance to the billing counter, so first-time visitors know what to expect.
If you are deciding whether to invest in a proper ad film this season or stick to Reels, our comparison of ad films vs Reels explains where each one fits.
Target your area, not the whole city
Hyderabad is large, and a customer in LB Nagar is unlikely to drive to Kondapur for sweets. Keep your ads within a realistic distance of your shop or delivery area. On Instagram and Facebook, a radius of a few kilometres around each outlet is a sensible starting point. On Google, focus on searches that show buying intent, such as “diwali gift hamper Hyderabad” or “corporate diwali gifts Gachibowli”.
Our guide to Google Ads for Hyderabad businesses covers budgets and common mistakes in more detail. The short version: start small, track every call and WhatsApp message, and move money towards whatever is working by the middle of the week.
For Zomoz – The Momo Company, a Hyderabad restaurant brand we work with, we run Meta Ads for people nearby, Google Ads for people actively searching, and regular Instagram Reels to keep the brand visible without paying for every view. The same mix works well for most festive campaigns. Paid ads bring in this week’s orders. Reels keep you in people’s minds for next week.
Use WhatsApp, but sparingly
Existing customers are the easiest people to sell to. A short WhatsApp broadcast with the offer, one image and a clear way to order is worth sending. Two or three messages across the whole season is plenty. Send more and people start muting you. And only message customers who have agreed to hear from you.
Week 3 (3 to 8 November): last-minute buyers and footfall
The final few days before Diwali bring the most last-minute searching. People want to know three things: are you open, do you have stock, and can you deliver today?
- Update your Google profile hours and post short updates like “Open till 10 pm” or “Same-day delivery in Banjara Hills”.
- Pin your best-selling item and your phone number at the top of your Instagram profile.
- Shift ad budget towards “near me” and same-day searches.
- Make sure whoever answers the phone knows the offer details. A lost enquiry at this stage is an expensive one.
Your Diwali marketing calendar at a glance
| Week | Focus | Key tasks |
|---|---|---|
| 20 to 26 Oct | Get found | Finalise the offer, update Google Business Profile, check website, forms and WhatsApp links |
| 27 Oct to 2 Nov | Build demand | Reels, local Meta and Google Ads, first WhatsApp broadcast |
| 3 to 8 Nov | Convert | Opening hours, same-day offers, budget on high-intent searches |
| 9 to 15 Nov | Follow up | Thank customers, ask for Google reviews, note what worked |
After Diwali: don’t skip the follow-up
The week after Diwali is quiet, which makes it the right time for two jobs. First, thank your customers and ask for a Google review while the experience is still fresh. Second, look at what actually happened: which offer sold, which ad brought calls, which Reel people shared. Write it down. It gives you a head start for Sankranti in January.
Mistakes we see every festive season
- Starting ads too late. New campaigns need a few days to settle. Launching on 6 November leaves no time to fix anything.
- Posting only greetings. A “Happy Diwali” creative with your logo is nice, but it doesn’t tell anyone what to buy or where.
- Targeting the whole city. You end up paying to reach people who will never travel to you.
- Not tracking enquiries. If you can’t tell which calls came from ads, you can’t tell what deserves more budget.
Frequently asked questions
When should I start Diwali marketing in Hyderabad?
Ideally three to four weeks before the festival. With Diwali on 8 November 2026, the third week of October is a good time to finalise your offer and update your Google profile, with ads running from the last week of October.
How much should a small business spend on Diwali ads?
There is no fixed number. Start with an amount you are comfortable testing for a week, track every enquiry, then increase spend on whatever brings in calls and orders. Our article on digital marketing cost in Hyderabad explains how to think about ad spend versus management fees.
Are Instagram Reels or Google Ads better for Diwali?
They do different jobs. Google Ads reach people who are already searching for what you sell. Reels and Meta Ads help new people discover you. Most local businesses get better results using both together.
Is it too late if Diwali is only a week away?
No. Update your Google Business Profile, post your offer and opening hours, send one WhatsApp message to existing customers and run a small, tightly targeted search campaign. It won’t be a full campaign, but it will still help.
